Janee - Continued
She never really had a phone number for Rodney. She would just call one of his friends, and he would then get a hold of her. She pointed out that even though she was scared, the defense promised to protect her (more on this later). She didn't want her name out there and didn't want Rodney to find out she testified. She never changed her name or do anything to protect herself though. She "moved" away but is back down in this area every day. The talk about "shooting cops in the head" took place with Rodney, Campbell, and herself took place was before Jeff was killed. It was then pointed out that she only meant Rodney the weekend of Oct. 26th. DEFENSE: She didn't like how Lane came across. He invaded her privacy rights. She was scared to testify because of Rodney(this point comes up A LOT). She is afraid Rodney will kill her, her family, and leave her baby alone. Rodney's and her relationship was only sexual. She was told that Rodney and Campbell were cousins by marriage. She found out about the shooting on the news. The confession conversation came in Nov. and Dec. with Rodney, and it happened at Kenny's house. She said Rodney told her "they were sitting in the bucket (crappy car) in front of the house and the officer pulled up behind them". When Rodney confessed he was shaking and crying. She said he had tears in his eyes when he said "he had to do what he had to do". After the shooting Rodney ran through a creek towards Morgan Hill. She can't remember all the fine details of the conversation because it has been so long and she hasn't been able to look at her past testimony. Rodney scares her more then anyone else ever, and that is why she wanted to stay "really" anonymous". She isn't comfortable talking to police because they can't protect her. The only reason she came to court because she was subpoenaed. A truck sideswiped her last year when she was driving a '99 Ford Contour and she suffered a concussion. She never remembered Campbell having a gun. At Kira's apt. when they talked about shooting cops in the head, she had smoked weed and drank some Cognac. She remembered listening to a broadcast in a Social Studies class at SJCC, that said if you have trouble with cops you have to shoot them in the head because they wear bullet-proof vests. That is how the conversation come up at the apt. The night of the shooting, she received a call from Campbell while he was at Tyree's house and he needed a ride. Janee couldn't give him a ride because she didn't have a car, but she would call Edwin (never happened). The defense got her a protective order. She never heard Rodney call himself "Felipe" at Kira's apt. party. Her first meeting with a defense investigator she told him that "Rodney was leaving the party, a cop caught up to him". Later she said Rodney said " I got out of the car, I shot the cop, I had two strikes" and he began to cry. On the night of the shooting Campbell showed up at Kira's apt looking for a place to stay. Campbell wasn't allowed to stay there, and Campbell said he was in trouble and he didn't do it. LANE: You said first Rodney was driving a car and it was pulled over, now you say they were sitting in a car at the end of a cul-de-sac, which is it? Both. (huh? two stories don't work) She said Lane badgered her to tell both stories. Rodney didn't say anything about his mustang. She points out that the police can't protect her but the defense said they could. She is always at her mothers, which has an alarm system, even though she moved away for her safety. Why didn't she ask for witness protection? She said because there is only so much the defense could do. So then at 3 am who would protect you if you live an hour away? She would call the police, but her hubby would protect her. She didn't ask the prosecution for protection because they would just tell her the same thing the defense told her. She then pointed out they are both lawyers, and she thought the protective order was good enough to protect her. The protective order actually has nothing to do with Rodney. There have been no attempts on her life in the past 7 years. She doesn't think Rodney knows she has testified 4-5 times. She then called Lane a "tattle-tale snitch" because he is a DA. The Jury then had some questions read... Any attempts on your life? No. Any harm done to you? No. If you cared for Campbell why didn't you tell Rodney to turn himself in? Because he is a big man, what am i gonna do, I'm just a small girl. That's an ignorant question. What did you overhear Rodney telling Janell? I don't remember. Did Rodney say where they were headed? No, she only remembers that Rodney and Campbell were in the car, and Rodney killed the officer. Why was the mustang there? She didn't know (she told the defense the mustang was there, but when Lane asked she didn't remember it being there). How'd you hit the windshield in your car accident? She sits close to the wheel. Lane: In '06 she told defense investigators that Lane just wanted a conviction, there was no evidence and that Rodney took the 5th, so obviously he killed Jeff. She knows there is no evidence because she reads the articles and watched the news. If the newspapers are wrong they would print a retraction. The DA doesn't have anything but testimony. In '06 she told defense investigators that she had sex with Rodney after he confessed, she said she never said it. The protective order is nothing but paper. She will tell the defense if she will come back on Monday. To protect herself she changed her phone, and moved away, although she is always back in the area.
She will be back on the stand Monday morning at 10am (unless her kids are sick or grandma is in the hospital). Her excuses have already been stated.

Everyone has amnesia, and everyone has been hit in the head, how convenient. True idiots, doesn't any of them have a better excuse?
ReplyDeleteSo far there have been a lot of people who seem to be confused as to what story to tell or what story they told last. Most of these people say they have had some type of head injury. I have yet to hear any lawyer ask these people what doctors they have seen for their injuries or ask them for a copy of the police report for the so called accident. It seems like everyone involved is mildly retarded, just like how the killer's lawyers have been able to get the courts to classify him.
ReplyDeleteToo bad all these accidents that they've been in didn't put them in the cemetary. Their testimony is a waste of time (other than the fact that it shows how stupid they really are). I hope the Jury sees through all of the lies to protect this P-R-I-C-K!!
ReplyDeleteI CAN'T BELIEVE THE MEMORY LOSS. IT MIGHT AS WELL BE GEITHNER ON THE STAND. HOPEFULLY THE JURY IS SEEING THRU ALL THE LIES AND LOSS OF MEMORY. HANG IN THEIR GUYS...OUR PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU..
ReplyDeleteDamn, these fools are dumber than Zack the dog! They're not retarded though, they know exactly what they are doing and what they did. Actually, I take that back. Regenald Synagol II might be retarded, you know, from all the shock treatment as an electrician. LOL there. A shame these people can make a mockery of these proceedings and it just continues. Well it's all going to end on judgement day, and I can't wait. Greg, what a job you're doing for your brother. Hang in there bro. I'll see you in the fall. Sincerely, - Me.
ReplyDeleteThe testimony and behavior of the people who have been on the stand confirm my suspicion that they are nothing but pathetic slime who continue to bring down our society. I am sick to death of this parasitic behavior.
ReplyDeleteAn now in Oakland....
I just found your blog. I'm so sorry for your loss. I changed next to Jeff in the locker room during our academy training. He was a heck of a nice kid. We used to joke everyday. After graduation he went with his agency and i went to mine. When I heard what had happened to him I cried. I can't believe all this time has passed. I've supervised Mr. Campbell at Main jail. My heart and prayers to your family. Please know you're loved by all including D.O.C. officers as well!!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I have never ever in my entire life witnesses such an INCREDIBLE witness. I hope with all my heart Ms. G. will see the travesty in what such lies will create. What troubled my emotions the most...she testified in court, under oath, that HER family came first, HER time was being wasted, and that HER FAMILY would always come first over "this trial." I wanted to break through my calm and collected self and scream "what about Jeffrey???? what about his family????." I hope I am able to watch more of Mr. Liroff's amazing skilled and professional advocacy for Jeffrey and his family. I also encourage everyone with a free moment or day to please come to the Santa Clara County Superior Court and watch this trial, bring your support and prayers.
ReplyDeleteI hope an pray that all those with a spare moment in their day are able to come and support Jeffrey's family during this trial. I was blessed with the ability to spend some of my days off sitting in on the trial. I was able to watch the brilliance of Mr. Liroff advocate for Jeffrey Fontana. I saw the travesty of a witness "forget everything." I also watched a woman, under oath, in a court of law tell the judge and jury that the only people that mattered to her was HER family. HER family was more important than being in court or the truth of her testimony! What about the Fontana family? It's fascinating what disregard for life a person can have when they are so engulfed in their own self-centered ways they can't see past the ignorance of their own comments. I hope and pray for the justice for Jeffrey and his family. I wish that everyone is able to find some time in their day to take part in the trial by sitting in at some point.
ReplyDeletehere's a ? why has it taken seven years to convict this is unacceptable to honest i dont like cops all that much but they surely dont deserve to die this lowlife deserves a bullet from my 9mm though
ReplyDeleteHow does it show ANY credibility for the defense teams approach with EACH of their witnesses having conveniently experienced 'memory-loss' injuries/accidents? Did the defense legal team request pure idiots for the jury knowing their brain-dead witnesses had all been cloned?? What a SHAM, an absolute misuse of justice, a drawn-out waste of time and money...UGH!!!
ReplyDeleteGreg, I wish I could be there with you and your family. I wanted to blog about this case for Trials and Tribulations, but real-life responsibilities have prevented me from attending the trial thus far. You are doing a far better job than I could have, and I thank you for your candidness and your efforts to bring transparency to the legal process!
ReplyDeleteI've written about this tragedy at T & T, http://sprocket-trials.blogspot.com/, and I've linked your blog from there. I hope you don't mind.
Bless you, your family, the family of officers everywhere and of course Santa Clara County Deputy DA Lane Liroff, who is leading the fight for justice for Jeff.
I just found your site while reading t&t and clicked on the link there. As I was reading from the first entry to the last I realized the defense has to know he has yet to put any doubt in the juror's mind with all of this "epidemic" memory loss, or traumatic brain injuries from riding motorcycles. This is such an open and shut case if I've ever seen. As I don't live in Santa Clara, I am unable to attend the trial, but my heart is with you and your family and justice will prevail in this case. I just like that you keep us up to date so that I am not missing anything. As a writer, I sit in the court rooms of the more interesting judges who have the majority of interesting cases in my town. I can't wait till tomorrow when the chambers are open and I can share this story with her while we wait for the action to begin.
ReplyDeleteAnswer me this...If Campbell was determined to "Mentally Retarded", having the mental aptitude of a 12 year old, why didn't the parents maintain tighter control over the boy? Why did the parents have ready access of guns in the household? Why aren't Campbell's parents held responsible for negligence in not supervising their mentally disabled son? If my child was mentally disabled, I would keep a careful eye on him/her at all times, and not allow him/her to come and go as they well please. I hope justice is visited upon all transgressors in this tragic case.
ReplyDeleteHey Jeff,
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog. Hang in there buddy.
