Day 14: Tapes provide evidence

He still didn't remember anything from back then. He still has memory issues due to the motorcycle accident. He says he reads stuff from the case online. Other people bring it up for him on the computer and he reads the newspapers articles. In 2001, he was trying to clear up some of his "legal issues", so he could try to make it as a football player. He was playing semi-pro in San Jose and had some tryouts for the NFL Europe and Canada football teams. Campbell Jr. didn't remember anything from the prior tape that was played. He was then played another tape. This was a jailhouse recording between Campbell Jr. and DeShawn, in which they 3-way in a girl named Christine. (Now if you were listening to this recording you would feel pretty upset that DeShawn was found mentally retarded, because he could speak clearly, and articulately). At one point in the tape Campbell Jr. tells DeShawn he was at Rodney's, and asks why he is hiding out. DeShawn says "Because. He ran someone over at the party, that, that ni**er is scared of. And he hit a car."....... My thoughts: why is your brother at the apartment of the guy you are saying killed Jeff?? Why would you say he hit a car as his big trouble and not that he shot Jeff?......DEFENSE: No questions

They were together for 5 years, had a baby girl together. It wasn't a stable relationship. They lived by Great America at the time. She remembered that they went to a Halloween party on Saturday, and that Nickolas stayed the weekend along with a Campbell Jr. friend. She remembers getting a call early on Sunday morning. She said it was from DeShawn, so she gave the phone to Campbell Jr. She didn't know Tyree Washington personally. She didn't know why she would have received a call at 4:38am from Tyree. After Campbell Jr. hung up the phone he said they had to go over to his fathers house. She remembers it takes about 15mins to get to the fathers house, which meant they got there around 5am, and remembers Robert Sr. getting there shortly after them. She remembered Sr. getting a lot of phone calls but not talking to her too much about what was going on, then remembering a lot of police there. She was taken for questioning. She remembers the questioning being very emotional because she was worried about her daughter and didn't want to be involved in this since she hadn't ever been in trouble before. She heard Sr. say that DeShawn had gotten into a fight but hadn't talked to him directly. A tape of her interview was then played. On the tape she told more details about Jr. saying DeShawn was in trouble when he hung up the phone. She knew he was in trouble and was picked up by Quincy. Because of this, she was angry at Lane and called him a "little devil". She lost her job and her life was in shambles. She wasn't holding anything back in the interview. She felt very scared and emotional during the interview. DEFENSE: She testified truthfully in '02. She is positive that Robert Sr. was the one that called her early that morning. She doesn't think the detectives believed her, she said " I can't tell you things I don't know". She thinks she was at the police department for about 13 hrs. She got very irritated during the interview because she couldn't see her baby. She saw the struggle between police and Robert Sr.

She was in charge of the Campbell case for "dead beat dads". She was told to go see if he was working at the time of the hearing. She witnessed him teaching karate at a YMCA. He was doing leg sweeps and demonstrating them to his adult students. He was supposedly totally disabled at this time and to her looked perfectly fine. DEFENSE: She was 40 ft away from Campbell. She didn't know if he had a leg brace on or even a back brace. For most of the 20 mins she was watching him, he was doing verbal instruction.
