Carmen Hopper - her son knows Campbell
She has a son named Sebastian who use to hang out with Campbell. On 10/28/01 Campbell came over her house to see her son. They talked a little bit on the front steps, then went upstairs to his room, came down to use the computer, and then Campbell left. Her son smoked marijuana back then, but she didn't know if he smoked that day with Campbell. DEFENSE: It was evening time when Campbell showed up. When he showed up, she didn't know Campbell was a fugitive. Campbell came over her house every now and then. It wasn't unusual to see him.
Louella Kissoon
She saw Campbell on 11/01/01 at Priscilla's apt. She knew of Campbell before then but didn't know him. She only said hi to DeShawn in passing, they never hung out. She did know that Campbell was in trouble at the time. Priscilla called her and asked for her help driving Campbell to someone elses place. She had been friends with Priscilla since pre-school(they are no longer friends). She said Campbell looked distressed at the time she saw him. Police took her in for questioning about a week later. She was not cooperative at first because she was young, scared, nervous and uncomfortable. She did end up telling them the truth after awhile. She didn't remember a mention of a gun by Campbell. Then we heard her taped interview. DEFENSE: She took Campbell to a guy named Paolo's girlfriend's house. She lived with her parents at the time police came looking for her. The interview tape was only a portion of her entire interview. She didn't want to be at the police station because she wanted to be with her young kid. She didn't answer the first few questions completely. The police didn't threaten her, they were actually very nice. She didn't have to tell them "what they wanted to hear", all she had to do was tell the truth. When she was taken in she assumed the worst(that she was going to jail for being an accessory). She knew there was no way to prevent anything the police were going to charge her with, so she just told the truth. (she was never charged with anything) She also said it was her responsibility to her daughter to tell the truth. There was also no deal with the prosecution. She wasn't charged with a crime with the contingency of her testimony, she said maybe that was true but there was "no deal" with the DA. The first time she heard about the accusations against Campbell was when she was at Priscilla's apt. She did assume it was true. She said Campbell said "i know, i know, i fucked up" her when she talked to him. According to her previous testimony others might have been in the room when they were talking, but she didn't recall. Campbell was talking normally when he told her this( i thought he was mentally retarded). She then testified that she transported Campbell in the trunk of her car. !! This is when the defense and her got into a pissing match about certain words in previous testimony!!. She actually told police he was in the back seat of the car. What her memory is that they used Priscilla's CRX which is a hatchback car. She said he was laying down between the back seat and the "trunk" area. She did all this because she felt peer pressure from her friend Priscilla, brother Gerald, and Maurice. She now thinks they used two cars. Her and Priscilla in her car(a rental) and Gerald and Maurice with Campbell in the CRX.
Clarence Sheppherd- Testified Tuesday
Campbell had a small black bag with him at Priscilla's apt. It was like a CD case. He showed with his hands the size it was, and he showed about a 2in x 2in in size.(I'm not an expert but i don't think a CD is 2in x 2in) DEFENSE: He never saw a gun
Sgt. Ramirez
Sheppard told him he never saw a gun. He saw a black bag with a zipper that could have held a gun in it... i.e. bigger then he just described. DEFENSE: Sheppard never saw a gun. He described that he thought a gun was in it based on the size he described.
Priscilla Smith
She was dating Sheppherd at the time of the shooting. She lived on the south side of San Jose. She lived there with Maurice(part time) and a guy named Paolo. Campbell came there the night of Halloween, he was on the couch when she showed up. She didn't know he was wanted by police until he was already there. She found out he was wanted from friends and the media reports. She knew Campbell because she had once dated his brother Edwin. She didn't know how he got to her place but she let him stay there for a few days. She helped drive him to another person's house. She said Louella drove him in her car. She also testified that Campbell was in between the trunk and the back seat. Paolo drove a CRX at that time. She told the police the truth. She never talked about the incident with Campbell. She said he was upset because he and Edwin had gotten into a brotherly fight. Police didn't make her say anything she didn't want to. A tape of her interview was played. On the tape Campbell said he got into a fight at a party. She was afraid of being arrested at the time of the interview. She went on the Internet after Campbell left her house. She never asked Louella to come by and help her. She did move Campbell in secret, but didn't think anything of it. Campbell was 50-50, in back seat and trunk of the car. She didn't lie, she just didn't want to be involved or get in trouble. When Campbell said "I messed up", it wasn't about the shooting (obviously) and it was about the brotherly fight. She was a different person back then. She used meth every day. Probably used when she talked to police. The officers were very close to her when they interviewed her, so they could have seen her pupils. DEFENSE: She had a 4 year old at the time, and didn't want to get in trouble. She knew she might of been incriminated for harboring a fugitive. The interview lasted several hours from mid-afternoon till 5am. She felt threatened by the officers. She didn't discuss about the death of Jeff. Campbell was very quiet, depressed, and sad. It looked like as if Campbell had seen a ghost, and was in shock. She cried during the interview. Campbell said "they think i shot the officer". She saw the letter he wrote to his family. The last part of the day was the defense reading from a medical book on drugs about use and reactions to METH. This was absolutely boring and that is all i will write on that. It lasted probably 35 mins.
She will be back in the morning.

I love how no one recalls. I am way older than these people and I can tell you everything in detail of that horrible morning.
ReplyDeleteGod there is just no justice in this.
