Kira McCuien- Campbell friend
She knows Campbell through some other friends, and they attended the same high school. On Friday Oct. 26 Campbell and a few friends went over her apt. She doesn't remember any of their names, one might be "Felipe". Her roommate at the time was Janee Gilmore, who will come in at a later date. Janee was interested in "Felipe". They partied that night for awhile, and Campbell & "Felipe" ended up staying the night. CD played with parts of her interview with police were played. At the gathering on that Friday, there was no discussion about shooting cops in the head because they wear bullet proof vests. They were suppose to hang out the next night, but Kira drank too much at a party she and didn't end up meeting up with Campbell. She did get a phone call from him that night though. On Sunday morning Kira says Campbell showed up at her apt. with another guy. The other guy asked if she could drive Campbell somewhere. She said she couldn't because she had a year old baby. She told police Campbell seemed scared and worried. In the interview with McCuien she told them Campbell showed up around 7pm and asked if he could spend the night at her apt. She told him no because his picture was all over the news. So she hung out Friday with Campbell, was suppose to see him Saturday night but didn't feel good enough, and then he came to her apt. on Sunday. DEFENSE: "Philippi" and Janee became romantically involved. He didn't know if "Felippi" drove a black mustang. She can't remember if Rodney McNeary is actually "Felipe". On Saturday she was trying to hook up Janee and "Felipe" again. As she was at the party on Saturday, she heard Janee talking to Campbell on the phone and heard that he got jumped.
Clarence Shepherd-
He was dating Priscilla Smith in 2001. He didn't really know Campbell at that time but knew of him. He was living part time at Smith's apt. off Monterrey Road in San Jose. One day he walked in and Campbell was in the living room. This was the Wed/Thursday after the murder of Jeff. So Campbell was a fugitive at this time. He slightly talked to him while he was at the house, but only talked about life, nothing else. Never talked about the shooting. He did talk to Priscilla about having Campbell in the apt., but since it was her place he was "only minding his own business". He is not afraid of Campbell or Campbell's family. In his police interview he did tell the truth. Campbell did give him a letter while he was staying at the apt. He hide the letter in Priscilla's bedroom. LANE then played his police interview in which he contradicts himself a few times. In the interview he said he gave Priscilla an ultimatum, asked what the f**k she was doing with him in the house, etc. etc. etc. He felt that in the interview that the police persuaded him into say things. But he was raised with morals and obviously was trying to do good (oh yeah, he was on parole for theft at the time.... a sign of his good morals). He didn't remember saying anything about Campbell telling him about the crime. DEFENSE: He testified that Campbell didn't tell him anything about the crime, not that he didn't remember. He told the truth here and to police. He met Campbell's family before and wasn't threatened.
There is no court tomorrow ( Wednesday 3/11/09)....... back Thursday morning.

Praying for justice for Jeffrey.
ReplyDeleteDavid Mibelli & Wife
Greg, Just learned of your blog in today's paper and so I am catching up on the archives. Hang in there--many of us in Scotts Valley CA are pulling for you and for justice. Really unfortunate that in CA it takes so long to get justice--the pendulum has swung too far in protection of the accused.
ReplyDeleteThese type cases could be adjudicated much quicker if only common sense prevailed in the justice system. I know all the arguments that the liberals whine about--even though our system would grind to a halt if they and the ACLU had their way. I think in any society waiting 8 years to get to trial for any homicide is ludicrous--just as ridiculous are convicted murderers sitting on death row for 20+ yrs awaiting for the appeals process to be exhausted. So I've vented--I pray for you and your family and those of other public servants who are in harms way on our behalf every day. God Bless,
