Day 12: That guy in the back, he threatened me!!

Priscilla Smith- Defense continued
When Campbell was suppose to turn himself in what happened? He jumped out of the car and ran away. She now was aware that Campbell was wanted at the time, she heard from friends, and media. Campbell never told her about the homicide. Louella just "popped" in her apt., she wasn't asked to come over and Priscilla never told Louella that Campbell shot Jeff. She also never threatened Louella. LANE: Her first testimony was that she was aware Campbell was wanted by police. She said she didn't go on the Internet until after Campbell left her apt. She heard from friends that he was wanted but saw it on the Internet after he left. She didn't know she could say "no" to police, so she only told half truths. She said that she usually did meth in the morning before school( the job club, i think that is like a community center type). She didn't do drugs at the school though. Police picked her up at the school and took her for questioning. Campbell just looked depressed while he was at her apt. She didn't ask any questions because she didn't want to be involved, but she didn't ask him to leave either. She was afraid that the officers would hurt her. She was so scared of the officers she didn't tell police what she knew. DEFENSE: She didn't remember if she could tell the police "no".
Robert Campbell Sr. --This should be good!!
He takes the 5th and leaves.(no help for his kid)
Det. Ramirez- SJPD
He utilizes a notebook system while interviewing people. He interviewed Priscilla 11/14/01 and it started at 2:20pm. The interview room is like 5x10ft and has a small table. They put Maurice and Priscilla in the same room hoping they would talk to each other. Det. Ramirez had experience with people under the influence, and drugs (Qualified as an expert in this area). She didn't appear to be under the influence of meth during the interview. DEFENSE: They talked about drug effects and i don't really want to type out signs & symptoms of drugs. There were many tapes of the interview with Priscilla, and they are recorded secretly because they can make witnesses nervous. Then they tried to define if Priscilla was crying or sobbing during the interview.
Juan Sebastian Cadena - Campbell friend
In-custody. In 2001 he lived with his mom Carmen Hopper, who testified yesterday. He is friends with Campbell. Campbell came by his house on 10/28/01. They went to the computer and searched for new articles about the shooting. Didn't recall if they found any info. Then they went to smoke a blunt, talked about a football game and the trouble Campbell was in. He was involved and scared. He was told he couldn't stay at Cadena's house. He had his family there and knew Campbell was involved. He also didn't want to be involved because he had a parole violation at the time. He smoked pot so he didn't have to remember his life back then. We then listened to his interview. . He doesn't remember most of those items he said. He remembered there was someone in a car waiting for Campbell. He did tell the police the truth. He said Campbell is a good guy, and his family is nice. DEFENSE: So all you know, a blunt is bigger then a joint. Since he was on parole, he didn't shoot at cops. More MORE drug talk. What's the best weed? It affected his memory, especially his short term memory. He was about 260 lbs back then today is about 150lbs( munchies suck especially with no ambition to workout). Police picked him up and brought him to the interview. They threatened his girlfriend by telling him " It would be a shame to lose a beautiful girl that like for not telling the truth" He didn't remember much of anything from back then.
Then he pointed to the back of the courtroom and said " that is the guy who arrested me in Reno that threatened me". The threat this time was "If you tell the truth you will be able to come back and get to work very quickly".... ouch! very threatening.
Marijuana causes memory problems for him but helps with his ADD and anxiety. (I don't know if it causes more memory problems then motorcycle rides, still up in the air on that one). LANE: He felt pressure to give more information then he had to police but he didn't lie to them.
At this point the jurors were asked to go to their holding room. As they were walking out, Cadena again to the person in the back of the room " will you talk to my judge for me since i did everything you asked me to". PS: the person he was yelling at about the threats was asked to take the stand again(he already testified in this case).
Ofc. McCarthy-SJPD
He testified in this case about 2 weeks ago. He was not in Reno. He never met Cadena. DEFENSE: Mr. Cadena was mistaken? Correct. You didn't threaten him? Correct, not me. You didn't promise him anything? Correct.

Crazy ending this week. We are back again next Monday!

Thanks to all San Jose Police Officers who stopped by this week, and the past weeks. Thank you to all our friends and family who stopped in also!!!
