Day 30: Discombobulated attempts

Campbell- Continued
Lane: Why is your voice different from the taped phone calls? Campbell didn't think his voice was different. Campbell said he was respectful during his arrest. The taped conversation had him saying he was telling the cops to "f**k" off. Campbell said he didn't say that, he was just talking to his friends and saying it in his words. Campbell said a police officer came over and said "I'll blow your f**king brains out". Campbell told the cop " go ahead f**ker". Campbell lied when he said that a cop had choked him. When Campbell earlier used the word "blood" to his brother it was in friendly terms, he said he never said "f**k you blood" to the cops even though he said it to his friend. Campbell said he didn't exaggerate anything to the person he was talking to, he just said some things that were lies. He tried to pump somethings up. Campbell didn't want to be arrested because he was scared of police, didn't want to say anything about McNeary, and to stay out for his daughters birthday. Campbell was arrested on Nov. 8th and his daughters birthday was on Nov. 15th. When Campbell was a fugitive he never tried to get a hold of his daughter. Campbell wasn't so afraid of the police that he wouldn't turn himself in after the birthday. Campbell said he wanted to discombobulate the case at the end (yes he knows what it means, good for a retard). Campbell said he was going to keep his side of the story to himself until the end, that way he could discombobulate the whole trial. Campbell thought it would be good for his case if Ofc. Fontana was a jerk, or had complaints on him, which he told his mother. Campbell says that Ofc. Fontana wasn't a jerk, didn't harass him and didn't pull him over. His previous lawyer was trying to say that it was a racial thing, but Campbell didn't full that. Campbell didn't think things would be different if the races were reversed. Campbell thought the jailhouse treatment was more racial. The correctional officers treat him poorly, they call him "cop killer", laugh at him, and throw his food on the floor. Campbell doesn't think he is a ghetto celebrity. His father once called him a 'star', but Campbell doesn't feel like that. Campbell said that after he beats this court case he would have to "smash out to New York". By that he meant he would hide out in New York. Campbell had warrants out of his arrest because he missed his court date for the Good Guy's incident. Campbell said his dad and brother Robert Jr. never tried to bring him to court to take care of those warrants. Campbell use to hang out with McNeary a lot back in 2001. Campbell knew McNeary was in the 7-trees crypts. Campbell and McNeary smoked, drank, and played football together. 7-trees crypts were from the southside of San Jose. McNeary wouldn't shout "east side" at a party, because southsiders and eastsiders didn't like each other. Campbell didn't start the fight at the party on Rotterdam. He was blamed because the sister of the house was yelling at him, and Campbell talked back to her. The brother of the house then came out and started to fight with Campbell. Campbell wanted to brother and sister from the party to know that he didn't disrespect them, and he told that to someone in a jailhouse phone call. Campbell wanted them to know he was just defending himself not disrespecting them. Campbell wasn't upset about the fight that night, he was bothered by Tyree at the party though because he was talking to Campbell when he was trying to talk to Christine, his ex-girlfriend. When Campbell was riding the mini-bike he didn't know the police officer was trying to pull him over. Campbell didn't hear the siren, and didn't see the lights. The police officer had to pull beside him and yell at him to pull over. On Oct. 28th, Campbell wasn't lost, he saw the mustang and turned down the other side to hide. Campbell didn't want to be near the mustang because the people from the party might be watching the mustang. As Campbell turned down Calle Almaden, he saw McNeary walking. Campbell kept driving to the end of the street so he wouldn't be close to the mustang. McNeary followed him down the street. Why didn't you just pick up McNeary and drive to Janielle's? They started talking and then didn't have enough time. McNeary was standing in front of the drivers side door, Campbell had to lean forward to see things happen. Campbell saw the cop walk up to the car, he had a flashlight in his hands. Campbell couldn't see the gun when it was fired. Campbell told his father he told his father what happened to Quincy and Priscilla. Quincy said he didn't talk to Campbell. Priscilla said that Campbell told her that he got pulled over by the cop after leaving the party and the cop got shot. Campbell told his father that McNeary had the gun, and that " I didn't know until later, after he did it". He also said McNeary broke into their house earlier and took money and jewelry. Campbell said the conversation with his father was in code. He didn't want to talk about things over the phone in specifics, but used code to talk around it. Campbell said his lawyer told him that McNeary wouldn't be charged with the hit & run from the party. Campbell couldn't remember that he told Louella, " I know, I f**ked up". Campbell says that means he made a mistake by giving the gun to McNeary and for running. Campbell can't remember what he told Sebastian Cadena but he did smoke a blunt with him that night. Campbell says it is very serious to lie, especially when under oath. Warrants had nothing to do with handing over the gun. The gun was loaded when Campbell had it, he had shot guns before but not his fathers. Campbell asked Cadena to call some people for him, but didn't remember who. That night McNeary was wearing jeans, do-rag, and a blue and white shirt, Ofc. Barg said McNeary was wearing gray pants. DEFENSE: 10 felonies came from the 'Good Guy's' incident. Campbell doesn't know whose phone he used at Tyree's apt. Campbell was hearing that Ofc. Fontana was a jerk. That fact wasn't important to Campbell. The correctional officers have treated him badly since his arrest. They throw his food on the floor, call him a "cop killer", laugh at him, threaten him. Campbell feels sad and disrespected when he is called a cop killer. He wants to leave the state after this case is over, Campbell wants to go to New York, Texas, or Atlanta. The 7-tree crypts are a gang. McNeary is part of that gang. Before the shooting Campbell was comfortable around the crypts, after the shooting he didn't trust them. Campbell isn't apart of Mount Pleasant Hoods. He just lived in that area, he isn't a gang member. Campbell didn't want to be labeled a snitch while talking to his father over the phone. Campbell's old attorney told him that there was no gun powder residue in the car. Campbell said that someone else had to be around, that would be McNeary. His lawyer also told him that McNeary wasn't being charged for the crime at the party. Campbell said he wasn't planning on talking to anyone about his side. Campbell had contact with Louella at Priscilla's house, they never talked alone though, and he never said he killed the police officer to Louella. LANE: Robert Campbell previously testified that the gun had been stolen a few months before. Campbell thinks his dad was talking about the money, and jewelry. Campbell was talking about New York during the time he was a fugitive, he was afraid to go to NY because they had heard about the shooting there too. Campbell says he didn't talk to his aunt when he was a fugitive, doesn't know when he talked to her about that. DEFENSE: Campbell was saying that once he beat the case he would move out of state, possibly New York.

  1. What about the other 20 years he was already sentenced to?

  2. Yeah that ought to sway a jury: "Once I beat this rap, I'm on my way to NY or Atlanta."

I honestly can't understand how anyone could keep a straight face listening to this newly mentally-retarded killer. I seriously doubt any corrections officer is throwing this criminal's food on the ground. He's probably throwing it down there himself and crying wolf.

If he thinks life is hard in SC County jail, he's going to have a great time at Soledad, or Salinas Valley, or Folsom, etc.

He speaks in code to his father yet he's as good mentally as Forrest Gump. Yeah sure.

Strength to you and your mom ...

  3. Originally, he was suppose to turn himself in, and serve like 2 or 3 years. Now, I think he got the maximum punishment for those crimes he was previosly found guilty of.

  4. our court system should be ashamed of themselves to allow this mental retard defense to continue. every person facing death will now qualify as a mental retard. shameful.

  5. May God bless everybody involved and affected to this case. Also please try not to pass judgement on something you do not know about. If you have never been 'inside of jail' how can you sit there and say that it is a lie about the CO's throwing his food on the ground? He too is a person. REGARDLESS. & it is sad how closed minded people can be to just want 'somebody' in jail for this case. It would fit suit better if we had the right guy behind bars now. Wake up, open your eyes and do look around.
