Thank you

On behalf of myself and my family I would like to thank all of you for the support you have shown us. First and foremost we would like to thank Lane Liroff. His hard work and dedication to this case was outstanding. He went above and beyond his duty as a Deputy DA, and brought justice for Jeffrey. We would also like to thank Chief Davis and the San Jose Police Department. We had a ton of support during the trial from so many officers who stopped in and sat with us. This is especially to the "metro" unit. They were fantastic to us, standing by us everyday of the trial. This is true for Koz, Ofc. Hove, and all the other officers who worked as our escorts. Thank you to the San Jose Police Officers Association, Bobby Lopez, and Ofc. Marquez. Thank you to the District Attorney's office and all of the DA's who stopped in, especially Valarie, Angela, and Vonda. We would also like to thank all the friends and family who came to the trial to support us, and all the other people who stopped in to say hi, or just be there with us. If I forgot anyone on this, I apologize.

Please continue to check into this blog as I will be updating the events until Aug.7th when the sentencing takes place.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!
GOD BLESS!

  1. An awesome job you've done with this blog. Thank you so much for all the information you supplied on the days I couldn't be in court with all of you.

  2. Are you considering writing a book, Greg? I would be honored to help you write it.

There needs to be more information—and more outrage—about the lack of rights for the victims' families. Your family's unwilling adventure through the "justice" system (along with the misadventures in cases of delayed justice like the Phil Spector case) was just so wrong ... in both cases, a dedicated tenacious DA made things happen, no matter the crap thrown in front of them.

Imagine your mom and Lana Clarkson's mother Donna out there fighting for victims' families' justice? Scary awesome!

The best to your family, as always.

  3. It seems that a jury, 7 years after the fact, has finally convicted Deshawn Campbell of the murder of SJPD officer Jeff Fontana. This business of the suspect’s mild retardation is as ridiculous as the O.J. verdict. Apparently the judge who made that ruling is under the impression that the death penalty and prison are only for geniuses.

Campbell is apparently facing life without parole and it is likely that such will be his sentence. Although he will likely be lionized in prison, his receiving life without parole, if he is a scrawny pretty little wimp and destined to be someone’s cell-wife, is probably justice. A hot-beef injection would be about as disagreeable as would be an injection of a lethal drug cocktail.

The only problem is that the likelihood of Campbell actually dying in prison and never being paroled is probably less than the possibility of Al Sharpton going on “American Idol” and singing “White Christmas”. I wonder if Campbell is literate enough that he and Mumia Abu-Jamal can become pen pals. To those who may wish to characterize these latter, admittedly somewhat cynical, remarks as racist, consider that while racism does still exist in various places, this Fontana, the O.J., and the Mumia Abu-Jamal case demonstrates that the system seems to have at least spread the injustice around. Anyone who fails to see this clearly should consider that they may be as retarded as is supposedly Campbell.

I am also waiting for Chief Davis to make the nauseating but near obligatory politically correct statement as to how this situation is a tragedy for “both” families. It is only tragic for the Fontana family. They raised a decent human being who was making a positive contribution to society while Campbell’s family raised a murderous and apparently retarded, scum and someone that society would be better off without.

Campbell’s unprovoked murder of officer Fontana was tragic; had Fontana instead killed Campbell, it would have been praiseworthy.

  6. Thanks, Greg, also from those of us out of town who wanted to be there also, but couldn't. Your blog was excellent, at times I was as outraged as I am sure you were while it was happening. I share in the (somewhat limited) relief that this trial has finally come and gone.
Thanks again for keeping us informed.

  8. Greg, can you please post the time of the sentencing? I would like to attend to offer my show of support for SJPD and for your family.

Hopefully the judge will let Chief Davis speak; I'm sure every SJPD cop wishes he could personally speak, but the chief will do a great job of representing the emotions of all of Jeff's brothers in uniform.

    Best to you and yours.
